Prof. Dr. Sanpawath Chatupathwanrungkoon Digital Practice Leader at Aurecon Thailandstated that today the topic of Green Building is not new, and importantly, it relates to the fundamental well-being of design work and is a key challenge in fulfilling living conditions. The dimension of environmental concern today has allowed design work to find frameworks to create plans for operations to elevate and establish international standards, such as providing good living conditions and reducing energy consumption. However, design work alone cannot achieve the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the construction industry; it requires the entire ecosystem in the business supply chain to drive together.
Dr. Worawatadded that for the development of Net Zero Design in the construction industry and building paints, Bayer focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in every process from upstream to downstream, which includes the selection of raw materials in production, delivery, and post-use of products. They have developed a range of products that align with this drive across various offerings, including the development of Ceramic Cooling technology(Ceramic Cooling)that can reflect up to 97.2% of heat from sunlight, as well as not emitting VOCs, which are substances that can react with sunlight to become greenhouse gases, among others.
Importantly, Bayer is also committed to creating prototypes of eco-friendly buildings. In the paint manufacturing sector, which requires a significant amount of electricity, Bayer has been able to reduce electricity usage by installing solar panels on the rooftops of buildings. Additionally, they have incorporated plant-based compounds (BIO-BASE) to replace some petroleum-based raw materials to reduce pollution.
In the past, Bayer paints have helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 336,600,000 kilograms of CO2 equivalent (kgCO2e), which is equivalent to planting more than 5,500,000 fully grown trees. This is considered a significant drive by Bayer towards becoming a green building and aGreen Businessthat aligns with the goal of moving towards a net-zero greenhouse gas emission target that can be realistically achieved in the long term by 2050.
During the event, Bayer also gifted trees to all guests through theEcoMatcherapplication, totaling 1,000 trees in the reforestation area of Krabi province, in collaboration with EcoMatcher partners to promote environmental conservation by giving trees as gifts to partners and participants in the Net Zero Design event, with the important milestone of being part of creating aCarbon Offsetfor global society in the future.
