Beger Co., Ltd.A leader in eco-friendly color innovation has launched a prototype project that combines advanced safety features with environmental concepts by usinginterior paint that can reflect high heat and is inherently flame-retardantto create buildings that are both cooler and safer. This project is being piloted atMercy Early Childhood Center, Klongtoeyand marks the first real application in Thailand.
Social Innovation: From Food Waste to Flame-Retardant Paint
This project has a primary goal of reducing fire risks in vulnerable buildings, especially in areas with young children who have limited evacuation options in emergencies. The project’s highlight is the development of “bio-based flame retardants” extracted fromfood waste such as oyster shellsand integrated into the BegerCool All-Plus for Interiorwhich is Beger’s premium interior paint.
This type of paint hashigh heat-reflective propertiesthat help reduce indoor temperatures, resulting in decreased energy use from air conditioning, and also hasinherent flame-retardant propertieswhich have been tested according to UL94 V-0 standards, proving it can extinguish flames within 10 seconds without dripping flames, while also emitting low volatile organic compounds (Low VOC), making it safe for health.
Vision of Leadership: Protecting Lives with Color Innovation
Dr. Worawat Chaiyasubuna,CEO of Beger Group, discussed the concept behind the project, stating, “We believe that good paint should not only be beautiful but must also help protect the lives and health of residents, especially young children and the elderly. BegerCool All-Plus for Interior is therefore designed to meet the needs for cooling, fire safety, and sustainability by intelligently utilizing surplus resources.”
Public Expansion Plan: Cool, Safe, and Sustainable
Beger plans to expand this innovative interior paint with heat-reflective and flame-retardant properties to densely populated residential buildings across the country, such as
- Childcare centers and kindergartens
- Elderly care homes
- Hospitals
- Public buildings and residential buildings in the community
to elevate building standards in Thailand to ensure fire safety and promote sustainable well-being
