collaboration withthe National Innovation Agency (NIA)is moving forward to build on the research of the BegerCool paint innovation, which has been recognized as thenumber 1 achievement from the unique innovation platform among competitors nationwide over the past 20 yearsto apply knowledge and technology related to heat reflection and energy management in buildings to the research project“Cooler Bangkok”aimed at creating a prototype of a cool city (Urban Cool Zone) to reduce the impact of the urban heat island phenomenon and improve the quality of life for urban residents in the future.

The “Cooler Bangkok” project aims to study the application of heat-reflective material technology in buildings and urban areas on a broader scale, including residential buildings, commercial buildings, and various urban surfaces such as roofs, walls, and exterior surfaces of buildings, to help reduce surface temperatures, decrease heat accumulation, and lower energy consumption from air conditioning systems, which is one of the key approaches to cope with global warming and increasingly severe weather conditions in urban areas.

This collaboration integrates Beger’s knowledge in material research and innovation with NIA’s role in promoting the country’s innovation ecosystem to extend the impact from product-level innovations to applications at the urban level, aiming to create a model for urban development that can be further developed into sustainable urban policy and development in the future.

In this instance, both agencies have introduced the innovationBeger Roofseal Coolwhich is one of the technologies in theBegerCoolgroup developed to reflect solar heat radiation, reduce heat energy absorption on roof surfaces, help lower building surface temperatures, and reduce electricity consumption from air conditioning systems as one of the prototype technologies of the project, with the goal of expanding the “cool square meter”(Cool Square Meter)in urban areas.

Additionally, this technology has been developed to be more durable withGraphene Technologywhich enhances the strength of the coating film, increases resistance to weather, heat, UV radiation, and long-term surface degradation, allowing for sustained heat reflection performance, suitable for the tropical climate of Thailand.

Therefore, this collaboration is not only an extension of an innovation that has been recognized at the national level but also an application of knowledge in materials science and coating technology to urban development to help reduce theUrban Heat Islandphenomenon and create a prototype of a city with a cooler environment sustainably under the concept of“Cooler
