Overcoming the oil price crisis, Bayer promotes the water-based paint innovation “BegerShield Griptech 2in1” as a new alternative to reduce dependence on petroleum while enhancing safety and the environment.

Amid the fluctuations in global oil prices affecting the paint and coating industry, which primarily relies on petroleum-based solvents, Bayer Co., Ltd. continues to develop innovative paints to meet the demands of performance, safety, and sustainability. This is exemplified by the launch of BegerShield Griptech 2in1, a water-based rust-resistant steel paint, an innovative coating that utilizes Water-borne Technology to reduce the use of petroleum-based solvents while elevating the standard of surface coating for the modern era.

BegerShield Griptech 2in1 stands out with its 2in1 properties that combine both rust primer and topcoat in a single product, helping to reduce work steps, increase convenience, and save time in application while maintaining durability comparable to oil-based paints. It effectively protects steel surfaces from rust, moisture, and oxidation. The product has also been developed to support various applications with Multi-Surface Coating technology that provides excellent adhesion on multiple surfaces, including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, as well as materials like PVC, UPVC, and concrete, making it suitable for repair, structural, and decorative work.

In terms of design, BegerShield Griptech 2in1 supports a color mixing system of over 14,000 shades, providing flexibility for architects, designers, and project owners to create unique works. Another important highlight is the water-based technology that gives the product a mild scent, quick drying time, and low VOCs (Low VOCs), reducing the emission of volatile substances that affect indoor air quality, making it suitable for use in residential areas, office buildings, and spaces requiring user safety.

Dr. Worawat Chaiyosburan, Chief Executive Officer of Bayer Group, stated:
“Today’s paint innovation must address more than just aesthetics and surface protection; it must also consider health and environmental impacts. The development of BegerShield Griptech 2in1 is therefore another important step for Bayer in offering a highly effective surface coating alternative that is durable like oil-based systems but safer for users, thanks to water-based technology that reduces reliance on petroleum-based solvents.”

“Amid the volatility of energy and raw material costs, water-based paints represent a significant direction for the future of the paint industry. Bayer remains committed to developing innovations to elevate surface coating standards while creating value for users and society sustainably.” This trend aligns with the global paint industry’s shift from solvent-based coatings to water-borne coatings to reduce the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and decrease reliance on petroleum-based raw materials. According to the American Coatings Association, the share of water-based paints is continuously increasing, while the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency indicates that water-based paints play a crucial role in reducing VOC emissions, which directly affects indoor air quality. With a focus on developing products that emphasize both performance and sustainability, BegerShield Griptech 2in1 is an important option that meets the needs of the industry, entrepreneurs, and consumers in an era that truly seeks a balance between quality and environmental responsibility.
